About Deep Forestry
At Deep Forestry, we are rewriting the rules of forestry management. We build autonomous, deep-tech drone systems capable of navigating dense, complex forest environments to acquire, process, and deliver high-fidelity spatial data. From heavy-duty hardware prototyping and edge-computed SLAM to commercial cloud portals, we own our entire stack.
We are a highly specialized, tight-knit tech team where everyone owns a critical piece of the puzzle. As we scale our commercial impact, we are looking for a brilliant Senior Robotics Engineer who loves solving complex spatial problems and wants the architectural freedom to impact the entire system.
The Role
Your initial mission will be highly focused on owning and evolving our 3D SLAM and mapping capabilities, ensuring our drones generate flawless spatial maps in challenging environments.
However, we don't believe in rigid silos. Our vision for this role is long-term and expansive. Once you have mastered our mapping pipelines, you will have the opportunity to stretch your skills across the entire system, collaborating on autopilot systems, hardware-software integration, and advanced data processing pipelines.
What You Will Do
● Own the Map: Develop, optimize, and maintain our 3D SLAM, state estimation, and sensor fusion pipelines to ensure precise localization under dense forest canopies.
● Collaborate Across the Stack: Work closely with our Autopilot Engineer to feed SLAM data into navigation loops, and with our Data Processing team to stream edge data efficiently.
● Architect for Scale: Partner with our Chief Systems Architect to write highly performant, modular C++ code that bridges edge robotics with our broader systems architecture.
Who You Are
You are an engineer who thrives on seeing your algorithms run in the physical world. You enjoy deep mathematical problems like state estimation, but you also possess the software engineering discipline to write production-grade code.
● Experienced: You have a strong track record (likely 5+ years) working with 3D SLAM, state estimation, and sensor fusion in robotics, autonomous vehicles, or drones.
● C++ Development: You write clean, modern, and highly performant C++ in your sleep. Python is a natural second language for you.
● Robotics Stack Proficient: You are highly proficient with ROS/ROS2, Linux environments, and working with hardware sensors (Lidar, IMU, Cameras).
● Versatile & Curious: You are excited by the prospect of expanding your scope over time into autopilot systems, embedded UIs, or cloud-connected data processing.
● Education: A Master’s or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Aerospace, or an equivalent field with a focus on spatial AI/robotics.
