About Deep Forestry
At Deep Forestry, we are rewriting the rules of forestry management. We build autonomous, deep-tech drone systems capable of navigating dense, complex forest environments to acquire, process, and deliver high-fidelity spatial data. From heavy-duty hardware prototyping and edge-computed SLAM to commercial cloud portals, we own our entire stack.
To date, Deep Forestry's drones have completed over 1000 autonomous flights beneath the canopy in forests across multiple continents. The system measures stem diameter with a mean absolute error of 1.6 cm against harvester measurements along the full length of the stem, independently verified by a third-party government forestry authority.
The Role
As a Robotics Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for integrating, optimizing, and deploying the onboard software stack that powers our autonomous drones. You will bridge the gap between perception, navigation, autonomy, and hardware by ensuring all software components work together reliably and efficiently on resource-constrained embedded computing platforms.
You will work closely with perception, autonomy, and hardware engineers to build a robust production system capable of operating in demanding real-world environments.
Responsibilities
Review already integrated software components and integrate new software components into our existing onboard robotics platform.
Deploy and maintain software on NVIDIA Jetson Orin and other embedded Linux platforms.
Optimize CPU, GPU, memory usage, and inter-process communication to maximize onboard performance.
Design and maintain ROS2-based architectures, launch systems, and deployment pipelines.
Package, configure, and release software for production deployments.
Ensure robust communication between onboard systems, sensors, and flight controllers.
Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks, timing issues, and reliability problems.
Work with multidisciplinary teams to improve overall system architecture and maintainability.
Desired qualifications
Strong C++ and Python development skills.
Extensive experience with ROS2.
Experience developing software for embedded Linux platforms.
Understanding of Linux performance profiling and optimization.
Experience with multi-threaded and concurrent programming.
Familiarity with networking, IPC, shared memory, DDS, and real-time considerations.
Experience deploying production software to robotic systems.
Nice to have
Experience with precise sensor synchronization (PTP, PPS, hardware timestamps, trigger signals, etc.).
Experience integrating LiDAR, RGB cameras, GNSS/GPS, IMUs, and flight controllers.
Familiarity with NVIDIA Jetson optimization.
Experience with Docker and CI/CD for embedded systems.
Knowledge of autonomous drones or mobile robots.
Experience with ROS1 and ROS1 to ROS2 migration
