About Foray

Foray builds new ways of collaborating with plants to ensure lasting access to plant products we need and the ecosystems that provide them at the intersection of biotechnology, software, and climate impact. Today, nearly 40% of plant species are threatened with extinction, and conventional methods of plant sourcing exacerbate declines in acreage and biodiversity. Foray’s platform serves as a new operating system for plants. Leveraging natural hardware, we rapidly discover cultivation “programs” that enable plant cells to grow in emergent and productive new ways. Our software tools are accelerating the pace of this process discovery with AI-assisted analytics, predictive modeling tools, and design-of-experiment systems. We partner across industries to design and implement plant-powered advances in bioproduction, propagation, regeneration, and conservation.

About the Role

We’re looking for a mission-driven Software Engineer to join our growing team and help shape the core software platform at Foray. You’ll work on everything from backend services to user-facing tools, building production-grade systems that help researchers, engineers, and customers interact with plant cells in new and powerful ways. You’ll collaborate across disciplines including biology, machine learning, and product to bring our tools to life and scale them from internal use to external deployment. This is an opportunity to join early, work deeply across the stack, and help build a platform at the intersection of AI, plant science, and process engineering.

Qualifications

  • You have recent work or internship experience shipping production-grade software

  • Strong fundamentals in system design, architecture, and infrastructure

  • Experience with both backend and frontend development

  • Experience working across multiple technology stacks, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools and frameworks

  • Track record of producing clean, maintainable code that’s optimized for performance, scalability, and usability

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical colleagues

  • Nice-to-have: Experience with ML, data science, or computational biology workflows

  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with predictive modeling, optimization, or simulation tools

Skills & Attributes

  • Proficiency in full-stack development, with strong skills in React/TypeScript and Python backend frameworks

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and modern DevOps practices

  • Problem-solving mindset with an emphasis on scalability, performance, and usability in design decisions

Additional Details

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

  • Compensation Range: $100,000-$130,000, plus equity

  • Location: Hybrid

  • How to apply: We take the time to read each application closely. Thoughtful, clear responses help us get to know you. Please apply via the Polymer form.
